Pricing for Simplamate is pay-as-you-go so you only pay for the amount of service you use. Similar to utilities like water and electricity or cloud services like AWS and Azure. You only pay for whay you use, and once you stop using it, there are no additional costs or termination fees.
Consumption
When you use electricity from your utilty company the basic unit of measurement is watts. The more you run your air conditioner or dish washer the more watts you consume and thus pay for. For AI models consumption is measured in tokens. Just like most people couldn’t explain what a watt is even though they use and pay for electricity every day it’s not necessary to understand what a token is to use Simplamate but for those curious we explain it here.
Understanding Tokens
Tokens are the basic units of text that AI language models process. Text is broken down into small pieces (think of words or sylables) called tokens before being fed into a model. For example, in the sentence “Simplamate is a fantastic service!” there are 8 tokens1.
- A longish article or blog post is typically 1,000-3,000 tokens
- A typical book is about 100,000 to 200,000 tokens
- The complete works of Shakespere are ~900,000 tokens
To get a hands on feel for tokens you can try out OpenAI’s tokenizer.
Counting Tokens
When you submit text the Simplamate counts the number of tokens in your input (input tokens) and the number of tokens generated by the AI model in response (output tokens). The price of an interaction with Simplamate is based on these token counts.
The token-based pricing model allows for more granular and fair pricing compared to flat per-user per-month models. It accounts for the length of the input and output, ensuring that users only pay for the amount of service they use.
Cost per Token
The cost per token varies depending on the AI model selected but is typically very low. They might range from $0.000001 per token ($1 per 1 Million tokens) to $0.00002 per token ($20 per 1 Million tokens). Input tokens are typically less than output tokens.
Typical usage
Most users do not consume millions of tokens a month.
